What features do you like the most about your Pilgrim? What features do you dislike? What prompted you to buy a Pilgrim over other brands? I bought mine
because of all the extras in other brands were standard on the Pilgrim.

Mine was a little different. We found our 316RLDLS-5 last May in a little mom and pop RV dealer in Montrose, MO. Pop's health was failing, and Mom was
pretty much closing out the inventory. Our 316 was a leftover 2006 model.
We'd looked at several left over models elsewhere, and what we'd found almost every time is that the leftovers were leftover for a reason. Usually, the floor plan was something very unusual, and normally, very unusable! It was obvious why they hadn't sold. The 316 had an excellent floor plan, however. We hadn't look at Open Roads before, in fact, we were looking mostly at Cedar Creek, Jayco, and some of the more common brands. The open Road seemed to have everything the Cedar Creeks had, and since it was two model years old (but not used), the price was about half of list. The unit needed a cleaning and a re-sealing, wear and tear from just sitting for nearly two years. Most of the work was performed by the dealer. We took it back in a couple of times, for some warranty work, we had the toilet seal replaced, a leaky gray tank valve replaced. We also had the recall done on the Dometic fridge. This was our first new camper, and I was surprised how much work I had to do on it. The table screws tore out of the floor, and had to be replaced. the outlet in the main slide out didn't work, and had to be repaired. The outside power plug was loose, and poorly installed, with three out of four screws rusted, one completely in two. That had to be repaired. Lot's of little things like that. This spring, it required a complete re-sealing again. Several of the screws on the rear side of the main slide would pull out every time we moved. I had to remove them all, and replace them with longer coated deck screws, to prevent them from corroding or rusting. One of the nylon slide blocks on the bedroom slide had torn loose, breaking both mounting crews, had to repair that. The bolt fell out of the landing gear cross arm, causing only the loft pad to to move. had to replace that gear. The power cord to the converter was routed in such a manner, that eventually, the sliding door between the lower and upper levels caught the cord, and unplugged the converter. Tool me a while to figure that one out! The window in the main slide wouldn't close tightly on the bottom furthest away from the crank handle. Took me a while to figure that one out too. I was really surprised at the lack of quality on the little things, onusch a hgh-end trailer. From what I've been told, and have read, those problems exist with other brands. as well. Still we love our trailer, and plan to keep it for many years.

Hi,
As soon as we found out that the company was owned by Dave Hoefer, it pretty much sealed thedeal. We had previously owned several Duthmen trailers, built when Dave owned that company. He designed, built, and sold a darn good trailer for an affordable price! As for the Open Road. ours is an early 2004, 357. Being one of the early ones, it does not have as many of the "nice" ammenities which the 206 and newer units have. However, with almost 40K miles over the road, we have been pleased with the performance of our rig. If I have one dislike, or shall I say concern, it is the trailers frame. I have had mine checked for cracks and so far none show, however, Lippert could have made the gussets and structural parts stronger where the pin box is welded in. Only other item that I have not liked was the choice of rug color. Basic biege, which after five seasons, is beginning to slowly change color to orange. I've seen one other southern unit with this problem and I know that in a year or two, I may have to recarpet mine. That should be a fun experience! All in all, the Open Road has been a positive experience. Ratracer327 |
